Commitment
A development tool serving the Nunavut and Nunavik
Inuit
Much more than just a marine carrier, Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping
Inc. (NEAS) is first and foremost a direct economic link between Canada's
Eastern Arctic and the rest of the world.
NEAS is headquartered in Iqaluit and is majority owned by
Inuit Birthright Corporations. Its principal shareholders are Nunavut
Umiaq Corporation, which is owned by Qikiqtaaluk Corporation and Sakku
Investments Corporation of the Nunavut Territory, and Makivik Corporation,
from Nunavik. This group of controlling shareholders is joined by Transport
Nanuk, a Canadian marine carrier which has operated in the North for close
to half a century.
In short, NEAS is an Inuit alternative to traditional shipping
services. NEAS offers ice-class vessels sailing under the Canadian flag
and adapted to conditions in the Eastern Arctic. Above all, NEAS is a
shipping company committed to Inuit development with the customer as its
first priority.
